Four reasons why it is a safe choice
No cabling across the zone boundary
The sensor communicates wirelessly — no signal cables, cable glands or intrinsic safety barriers are required at the Ex-zone boundary.
Certified safety
The sensor features an explosion-proof design and ATEX-compliant certification — approved for operation in gas and dust hazardous areas.
Data reception outside the zone
LoRaWAN gateways and the ITS Edge Cabinet are installed outside the explosion-hazard zone — servicing and accessing them does not require Ex-zone entry procedures.
Continuous monitoring from day one
Data is sent to the local ITS instance and is immediately available via the GUI — with configurable alarm thresholds for temperature and humidity.
What is included in the solution
- ATEX (Ex d) temperature and humidity sensor, LoRaWAN View in store →Battery-powered wireless sensor with an explosion-proof design, installed directly inside the hazardous area. Periodic measurement and data transmission via LoRaWAN.
- ITS Edge Cabinet — basic versionPrefabricated cabinet with a complete ITS platform instance, installed outside the Ex zone. It receives data over Ethernet from LoRaWAN gateways, processes it and makes it available locally.
- LoRaWAN gateways (2 pcs.)Standalone LoRaWAN gateways deployed outside the Ex zone provide full signal coverage and redundant reception of sensor data. They are connected to the ITS Edge Cabinet over Ethernet.
The solution is modular — multiple sensors located at different points in the zone can be connected to one ITS Edge Cabinet with LoRaWAN gateways, without additional cabling. The number and placement of sensors are selected based on the size and geometry of the monitored area.
How it works
Sensors installed inside the explosion-hazard zone measure ambient temperature and humidity at regular intervals and transmit data wirelessly using the LoRaWAN. Transmission range crosses the Ex-zone boundary without issue — no cabling is required across that boundary.
Data is received by two LoRaWAN gateways deployed outside the hazardous area — this arrangement provides full signal coverage over a larger area and redundant reception. Both gateways forward data over Ethernet to the ITS Edge Cabinet in the basic version. The cabinet contains a complete, self-contained ITS platform instance — data is processed immediately and available locally through the GUI, with configurable alarm thresholds for temperature and humidity.
Where it works best
Flammable-material warehouses
Continuous monitoring of environmental conditions without the risks associated with electrical installations inside the zone.
Chemical industry
Monitoring rooms and installations where flammable gases or dust may occur.
Energy sector
Fuel tanks and areas around energy installations requiring Ex classification.
Warehousing and logistics
Monitoring storage conditions in explosion-hazard zones without interfering with existing infrastructure.
Ventilation and air quality
Input data for automatic ventilation systems responding to temperature and humidity changes.
Research stations and heavy industry
Facilities where measurements must be taken inside an area classified as hazardous.
No cabling through the explosion-hazard zone
- Signal cables routed across the Ex-zone boundary
- Explosion-proof cable glands and intrinsic safety barriers
- Costly, time-consuming installation
- Manual periodic measurements — risk of missed deviations
- Service requires entering the Ex zone
- Wireless transmission — no cabling across the zone boundary
- Sensor certified for operation inside the Ex zone
- Fast installation without interfering with the existing installation
- Continuous automatic monitoring with alarms
- Service and data reading outside the Ex zone
