VS121 — AI-based occupancy and space utilization analysis
Milesight VS121-868M is an intelligent occupancy sensor and people counter using local AI algorithms to analyze occupancy, traffic flow and the way space is used.
The device can monitor workstations, conference rooms, shared spaces, entrances and other areas requiring information about the number and presence of users.
The wide 190° × 112° field of view makes it possible to cover a large area with one device, while the ability to define up to 16 zones enables independent analysis of different parts of a room.
AI, up to 16 zones and LoRaWAN EU868 communication
Up to 98%
The current datasheet specifies recognition accuracy of up to 98% in a line-crossing test within the recommended detection area.
16 zones
A single device can analyze up to 16 independent areas of the monitored space.
LoRaWAN
Wireless transmission via EU868 reduces the need for wired network infrastructure.
Smart Office, Retail and space utilization analysis
Two color versions
Milesight VS121-868M is available with a white or black enclosure.
Variants White and Black have identical technical parameters and functionality. They differ only in enclosure color.
Local occupancy and people-count analysis
VS121 uses advanced AI algorithms to detect people located within the monitored area.
Analysis is performed locally on the device, allowing the system to report results without sending images to an external platform.
Very wide 190° × 112° FoV
For seated occupants the manufacturer recommends installation above 2.5 m.
For standing people the recommended height is above 3 m, with approximately 3 m being the optimal height for typical line-crossing.
Up to 16 independent monitoring zones
VS121 makes it possible to create up to 16 independent areas for regional people counting and occupancy analysis.
Each area can have up to 10 sides, allowing zones to be precisely matched to the room layout.
Dwell time analysis is also available for each zone.
Real-time space utilization information
Data from VS121 makes it possible to determine whether a specific zone is in use and how many people are present in the monitored area.
This information can support management of rooms, workstations, shared spaces and building automation.
Analysis of people moving in both directions
VS121 supports bidirectional counting of people crossing a defined line.
This makes it possible to analyze direction of movement, numbers of entries and exits and people flow between areas.
Filtering people who turn back
The Smart U-turn function helps reduce unnecessary counts caused by people moving near the counting line and turning back before fully crossing it.
Flow analysis in different directions
VS121 can analyze people movement in different directions and calculate flow for up to four edges.
This makes it easier to understand how users move within the monitored space.
Local analysis and privacy protection
Milesight declares VS121 compliant with GDPR requirements and states that images are not collected during the standard occupancy analysis process.
The device additionally supports up to 8 privacy masks, allowing selected parts of the field of view to be excluded from analysis.
Direct control without a gateway
The LoRaWAN variant of VS121 supports the Milesight D2D protocol.
This allows an occupancy-related event to be sent directly to a compatible Milesight device without passing through a gateway and server.
The function can be used for example for rapid control of lighting, ventilation or HVAC based on actual user presence.
Wireless Class C data transmission
VS121-868M communicates via LoRaWAN in the European EU868 band.
The device operates as LoRaWAN Class C and supports OTAA and ABP activation.
Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and Web GUI
VS121 has an additional Wi-Fi interface IEEE 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz operating in AP mode.
The Wi-Fi connection is used for local access to the Web GUI during configuration and service work.
Wi-Fi is not the primary channel for transmitting measurement data — in the VS121-868M version this function is handled by LoRaWAN.
Local storage and retransmission
VS121 supports local data storage and a retransmission function.
The LoRaWAN variant can store up to 1000 packets for retransmission, reducing the risk of data loss during temporary communication issues.
Power via USB-C
VS121-868M is a wired-powered device supplied through the USB-C port.
The current datasheet specifies a power supply of DC 5 V / 3 A and power consumption of approximately 9.4 W.
Compact enclosure for ceiling installation
85 × 85 × 20 mm
The compact design allows the device to be installed discreetly on the ceiling.
130 g
Low weight makes installation easier in existing rooms.
IP30
The device is intended for indoor applications.
Key parameters of VS121-868M White / Black
* The value of up to 98% in the current datasheet applies to a line-crossing test performed within the recommended detection area.
VS121-868M in a Smart Building system
Information about occupancy, number of people and utilization of space can be transmitted wirelessly to a central platform.
