Milesight UC512-DI-868M — battery-powered LoRaWAN® valve controller with internal antenna
Milesight UC512-DI-868M is an autonomous solenoid-valve controller designed for smart irrigation, remote flow control and water-consumption monitoring in field installations using LoRaWAN®.
The device is equipped with 2 interfaces for controlling 2-wire latching 12 V DC solenoid valves and 2 Dry Contact digital inputs. The inputs can operate as conventional digital inputs or pulse counters, allowing UC512 to work with pulse water meters and flowmeters, among other devices.
Variant UC512-DI-868M without the EA designation uses an internal antenna, so no external antenna installation or additional antenna cable is required. The design is particularly well suited to distributed agricultural installations, parks, green areas and other locations without access to permanent power.
Control, measurement and automation in one device
2 independent valves
Two interfaces enable independent control of two 2-wire 12 V DC latching solenoid valves.
2 DI inputs
Dry Contact inputs can be used for state monitoring or pulse counting from water meters and other measuring devices.
>10 years of operation
Three replaceable Li-SOCl₂ batteries provide many years of autonomous operation in installations without access to the power grid.
Automation of irrigation and water installations
Two independent outputs for 12 V DC latching valves
UC512-DI-868M has 2 independent valve interfaces enabling operation of two separate installation sections.
The controller works with 2-wire latching 12 V DC solenoid valves. This type of valve design requires energy mainly during a state change, reducing battery consumption compared with valves requiring continuous coil power.
The standard valve-interface cable length is 1,5 m, and connection is via an industrial M12 connector.
Digital Input and Pulse Counter for two channels
Version UC512-DI has 2 Dry Contact digital inputsfunction.
Each input can operate as a Digital Input or Pulse Counter. This enables both monitoring of logic states and counting pulses generated by water meters, flowmeters or other measuring devices.
The manufacturer recommends an input signal frequency up to 4000 Hzfunction.
Integration with water meters and pulse counters
Pulse Counter mode enables UC512 to monitor the amount of flowing water based on pulses generated by the connected meter.
A programmable value per pulse enables the number of pulses to be converted into actual water volume.
Combining flow information with valve control enables systems that not only start irrigation but also monitor actual water consumption.
Long-range communication for distributed installations
Variant 868M supports, among others, the European frequency plan EU868, as well as IN865 and RU864.
The maximum transmit power at 868 MHz is 16 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches −137 dBm at 300 bpsfunction.
The device supports activation OTAA and ABP and can operate as a LoRaWAN® device Class A or Class Bfunction.
Compact version without an external SMA connector
Model UC512-DI-868M without the EA suffix corresponds to the version with internal antennafunction.
This simplifies installation because no additional antenna or antenna cable outside the controller enclosure is required.
The external-antenna version is available separately as the EA variant with an SMA 50 Ω connector.
3 replaceable Li-SOCl₂ batteries, 9000 mAh each
UC512-DI-868M is powered by 3 replaceable ER26500 Li-SOCl₂ batteries with a capacity of 9000 mAh eachfunction.
Battery power allows the device to be installed where no mains power is available.
With a 20-minute transmission interval, four valve operations per day and a temperature of 25°C, the manufacturer declares a lifetime of more than 10 years in Class A mode. For Class B, approximately 6,2 years at SF7 and approximately 5,8 years at SF10. These are indicative values obtained under laboratory conditions.
Control even during temporary LoRaWAN® network loss
UC512 can execute preconfigured commands autonomously, even during temporary LoRaWAN® connectivity loss.
Local rules enable valve-control conditions to be defined without sending a command from the higher-level system each time.
Function multicast in turn facilitates operations on a group of UC51x controllers simultaneously.
Up to 16 events for automatic installation operation
The UC51x Series supports up to 16 schedule events, enabling automation of irrigation cycles.
Individual rules can specify the selected valve, operating time and amount of water used.
This enables both single cycles and periodic irrigation performed automatically according to a pre-programmed strategy.
Monitoring abnormal flow and water consumption
Data from pulse inputs can be used to monitor increases in flow or cumulative water consumption.
When defined thresholds are exceeded, the system can generate an alarm, helping detect unusual consumption, leaks or abnormal installation operation.
Wireless commissioning and configuration via Milesight ToolBox
UC512 can be configured wirelessly using NFC and the Milesight ToolBox applicationfunction.
The installer can read settings and save a new configuration by bringing a compatible smartphone close to the device.
Inside the enclosure there is also a USB Type-C port intended for the service console, and a Power/Reset button.
IP68 and operation at temperatures from −30 to +70°C
The UC512 enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68, allowing the device to be used in demanding outdoor installations.
The manufacturer’s IP68 test conditions include device immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 daysfunction.
The operating temperature range is from −30 to +70°C, and permissible relative humidity from 0 to 95% non-condensing.
Compact design for field installation
UC512-DI-868M dimensions are 116 × 116 × 45,5 mm, excluding protruding connectors.
The internal-antenna version weighs approximately 479 g including batteriesfunction.
The device is intended for mounting on a wall or pole, allowing it to be installed directly near controlled valves and measurement points.
