Milesight UC512-DI-868M EA — battery-powered LoRaWAN® valve controller with two digital inputs
Milesight UC512-DI-868M in the EA version is an industrial LoRaWAN® solenoid-valve controller designed for remote water-flow control and irrigation automation where supplying permanent power is difficult or impossible.
The device has 2 outputs for 2-wire 12 V DC latching solenoid valves and 2 Dry Contact digital inputs, which can operate as conventional digital inputs or pulse counters. This enables simultaneous valve control and flow monitoring based on signals from pulse water meters.
Variant 868M supports the European LoRaWAN® EU868 band and the IN865 and RU864 plans. The EA designation indicates the version with an external antenna and an SMA Female 50 Ωconnector, enabling antenna selection and appropriate placement under more difficult radio conditions.
Autonomous valve control without permanent power
2 valves 12 V DC
Two independent outputs enable control of 2-wire latching solenoid valves.
3 × 9000 mAh
Three replaceable Li-SOCl₂ batteries provide many years of autonomous operation without external power wiring.
IP68
The sealed enclosure is intended for demanding outdoor installations and has been tested by immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 days.
Smart irrigation and remote flow management
Two outputs for 12 V DC latching solenoid valves
UC512 has 2 independent solenoid-valve interfaces, enabling control of two separate irrigation circuits.
The device works with 2-wire latching 12 V DC solenoid valves. This type of valve requires energy mainly when switching position, making it well suited to battery-powered systems.
The standard cable length of the valve interfaces is 1,5 mfunction.
2 DI inputs for state monitoring and pulse counting
Variant UC512-DI has 2 Dry Contact digital inputsfunction.
Each channel can operate as Digital Input or Pulse Counter, allowing the controller to monitor status signals or count pulses generated, for example, by water meters and flowmeters.
The manufacturer recommends an input frequency up to 4000 Hzfunction.
Long-range communication for distributed field installations
UC512-DI-868M communicates wirelessly via LoRaWAN® and supports frequency plans EU868, IN865 and RU864function.
For the 868 MHz band, the maximum transmit power is 16 dBm, and receiver sensitivity reaches −137 dBm at 300 bpsfunction.
The manufacturer specifies an indicative transmission range of approximately 2 km in urban environments and for 15 km in open space, although actual range depends on antenna location, obstacles and radio conditions.
External antenna for flexible installation placement
Designation EA indicates the version with a connector for an external antenna.
The device has 1 × SMA Female 50 Ω, enabling the antenna to be selected and positioned more favourably than the controller itself, which is particularly useful for installation in chambers, recesses or around field obstacles.
For UC512, the EA version still uses battery power only — the model has no external DC power input.
3 replaceable Li-SOCl₂ batteries, 9000 mAh each
UC512 uses 3 replaceable ER26500 Li-SOCl₂ batteries with a capacity of 9000 mAh eachfunction.
This design is intended for long-term operation without external power, allowing the controller to be installed in remote field locations.
With a 20-minute transmission interval and four valve operations per day, the manufacturer declares Class A lifetime of more than 10 years. For Class B, approximately 6,2 years at SF7 and approximately 5,8 years at SF10. The values are indicative and were obtained under laboratory conditions at 25°C.
Valve control even without network connectivity
UC512 can execute programmed actions autonomously even if the LoRaWAN® network is temporarily unavailable.
Local rules enable planned valve operations to be performed based on configured conditions, time or measured values.
The controller also supports multicast, enabling simultaneous operations on a group of UC51x devices.
Up to 16 events for automatic irrigation
The UC51x Series enables preparation of up to 16 schedule eventsfunction.
Rules can specify, among other things, the selected valve, irrigation time and amount of water used. This allows both one-time and periodic irrigation cycles.
The system can also take into account irrigation delay due to rainfall, reducing unnecessary water use during rainy weather.
Water-consumption monitoring based on pulses
Digital inputs can work with pulse water meters and convert received pulses into volume units.
With a programmable unit value per pulse, actual water consumption can be monitored and used in automatic irrigation control.
The system can also generate alarms related to increased flow or exceeding a defined volume within a specified time.
Wireless configuration via Milesight ToolBox
UC512 can be configured wirelessly via NFC using the Milesight ToolBox app.
The installer can bring a compatible smartphone close to the device, read the current configuration and save new settings without opening the enclosure during standard configuration work.
Inside the device there is also a port USB Type-C intended for the service console, and a Power/Reset button.
IP68 and operation from −30 to +70°C
The UC512 enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68, making the controller suitable for long-term operation in demanding outdoor environments.
The manufacturer’s IP68 test includes device immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 daysfunction.
The operating temperature range is from −30 to +70°C, and permissible relative humidity from 0 to 95% non-condensing.
Compact enclosure for wall or pole installation
The enclosure dimensions are 116 × 116 × 45,5 mm, excluding connectors.
Variant EA with three batteries weighs approximately 521 gfunction.
The manufacturer provides for installation of the device on a wall or pole, making it easier to select the mounting location in agricultural and field installations.
