Milesight UC511-DI-868M — solar LoRaWAN® valve controller with internal antenna
Milesight UC511-DI-868M is an autonomous solenoid-valve controller designed for remote water-flow control, irrigation automation and monitoring of pulse devices via the LoRaWAN® network.
The device has 2 independent outputs for 2-wire 12 V DC latching solenoid valves and 2 Dry Contact digital inputs. The inputs can operate as Digital Input or Pulse Counter, allowing one controller to simultaneously control valves and collect data, for example, from a pulse water meter.
Version UC511-DI-868M without the EA designation uses an internal antenna. It therefore requires no external antenna or additional SMA connector. This variant uses an integrated solar panel and rechargeable batteries and is intended for autonomous operation in field installations.
Control, measurement and solar power in one device
2 valves 12 V DC
Two independent interfaces enable control of two 2-wire latching solenoid valves.
2 DI inputs
Dry Contact inputs can monitor state or count pulses from water meters, flowmeters and other measuring devices.
Solar + batteries
The integrated 6 V / 1,7 W panel and two rechargeable batteries enable operation without permanent mains power.
Automatic water management in field installations
Two independent channels for 12 V DC latching valves
UC511-DI-868M has 2 solenoid interfaces, enabling independent control of two sections of a water or irrigation installation.
The controller works with 2-wire latching 12 V DC solenoid valves. Valves of this type require energy primarily when changing position, making them well suited to solar- and battery-powered systems.
The standard cable length of the valve interfaces is 1,5 mfunction.
2 × Digital Input / Pulse Counter
Variant UC511-DI has 2 Dry Contact digital inputsfunction.
Each channel can operate as Digital Input for status monitoring or as Pulse Counter for pulse counting.
This enables direct operation with water meters, pulse meters and other devices equipped with potential-free outputs. The recommended maximum signal frequency is 4000 Hzfunction.
Measurement of actual water consumption
Pulse Counter mode enables counting of pulses generated by a connected water meter or flowmeter.
A programmable unit value per pulse allows pulses to be converted into the actual volume of flowing water.
Combining measurement and control makes it possible to monitor not only valve opening time, but also the actual amount of water used and detect unusual flow values.
Long-range communication for distributed installations
Variant 868M supports, among others, the European frequency plan EU868, as well as IN865 and RU864.
For the 868 MHz band, the maximum transmit power is 16 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches −137 dBm at 300 bpsfunction.
UC511 supports activation OTAA and ABP and LoRaWAN® modes Class A, Class B, Class C and Class C to Bfunction.
Compact version without an external SMA connector
UC511 is available in variants with internal and external antennas. UC511-DI-868M without the EA suffix corresponds to the IA version with internal antennafunction.
The antenna is located inside the enclosure, so the installation requires no additional antenna component or coaxial cable.
The IA variant also does not have the additional external 5–24 V DC power connector provided by the manufacturer only for the EA version.
Built-in 6 V / 1,7 W photovoltaic panel
UC511 has integrated solar panel rated at 6 V / 1,7 W, used to recharge the internal batteries.
This solution enables autonomous control points to be built without conventional power wiring.
Solar power is particularly well suited to irrigation systems for fields, parks and other distributed field installations.
2 rechargeable ICR18650 batteries of 2550 mAh each
Energy is stored in 2 ICR18650 batteries with a capacity of 2550 mAh eachfunction.
When fully charged and without further charging, the manufacturer specifies an indicative lifetime of approximately 8,4 years in Class A at SF7 and approximately 3,3 years at SF10function.
For Class B, the indicative value is approximately 1,1 years, and for continuous Class C mode approximately 26 days. The data assume a 20-minute reporting interval, four valve operations per day and a temperature of 25°C and are indicative.
Direct communication between devices
UC511 supports the Milesight D2D, enabling direct communication between compatible Milesight devices without a LoRaWAN® gateway.
In Class C mode, UC511 can operate as a D2D Agent and respond to commands directly from another device.
The manufacturer declares a response time below 1 second, enabling D2D to be used for fast local automation.
Autonomous operation even without a cloud connection
Function Local Rules allows predefined actions to be performed without sending a command from the higher-level system each time.
The controller can automatically operate valves based on a schedule, input state, flow information or other configured conditions.
Multicast support also enables operations to be performed on multiple controllers simultaneously.
Up to 16 automatic irrigation events
The UC51x Series allows creation of up to 16 schedule eventsfunction.
For individual rules, the valve, irrigation time and amount of water used can be specified.
Both one-time events and periodic irrigation cycles are available, as well as triggering via Milesight D2D or predefined conditions.
Detection of abnormal flow and water consumption
UC511 can analyse pulse-counter data and respond to defined threshold values.
It is possible, among other things, to detect an excessive increase in water volume or exceeding a defined consumption within a specified time interval.
The data can then be transmitted via LoRaWAN® to the higher-level system for visualisation, reporting and alarm generation.
Wireless commissioning via Milesight ToolBox
The device is configured wirelessly using NFC and the Milesight ToolBox applicationfunction.
The installer can switch the device on and off, read its settings and save a new configuration by bringing a compatible smartphone close to the enclosure.
A port is also available inside the device USB Type-C for the service console, together with a Power/Reset button and internal indicator LED.
IP68 for outdoor operation
The UC511 enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68, allowing the controller to be used in demanding field installations.
The manufacturer defines the IP68 test as device immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 daysfunction.
The operating temperature range is from −20 to +60°C, and permissible relative humidity from 0 to 95% non-condensing.
Compact enclosure for wall or pole mounting
The enclosure dimensions are 116 × 116 × 45,5 mm, excluding protruding connectors.
Variant weight IA with batteries weighs approximately 425 gfunction.
The manufacturer provides for mounting the device on a wall or pole, allowing the controller to be positioned directly near the controlled valves.
