Milesight UC502-868M — battery-powered LoRaWAN® controller with internal antenna
Milesight UC502-868M is an industrial IoT controller designed to collect data from wired sensors, meters, transducers and serial devices and transmit it to the higher-level system via the LoRaWAN® network.
The device combines in one enclosure 2 GPIO ports, 2 analogue inputs, switchable RS232/RS485 interface, Modbus RTU support and SDI-12 V1.4. This enables it to act as a universal measurement node for devices using different industrial communication and signal standards.
Model UC502-868M without the EA designation uses an internal antenna. This maintains a compact design without an external SMA connector and additional antenna, which works well in installations where propagation conditions allow use of the integrated antenna.
One controller for many sensor and signal types
Multiple interfaces
GPIO, analogue inputs, RS232/RS485 and SDI-12 enable different devices to be integrated at one measurement point.
3 × 9000 mAh
Three replaceable Li-SOCl₂ batteries enable autonomous operation in locations without permanent power.
IP68
The sealed enclosure and industrial M12 connectors enable the controller to be used in demanding outdoor installations.
Remote data acquisition in field installations
2 configurable digital ports
UC502-868M has 2 GPIO ports, which can operate as Digital Input, Digital Output or Pulse Counter.
This enables contacts and alarm states to be monitored, pulses from water, gas or energy meters to be counted, and basic control of external devices to be performed.
The recommended input frequency in pulse-counter mode is a maximum of 4000 Hzfunction.
2 4–20 mA or 0–10 V inputs
Two analogue inputs with a resolution of 12 bits can be configured by software for a 4–20 mA or 0–10 Vfunction.
This enables direct connection of standard industrial level, pressure, flow, temperature and other process-variable transmitters.
Modbus RTU and transparent transmission
The controller has 1 serial port, which can be switched by software between RS232 and RS485.
Transparent transmission is available, while in RS485 mode the device additionally supports Modbus RTUfunction.
This enables integration of power analysers, meters, inverters, controllers, transducers and other industrial devices equipped with a serial interface.
Interface for professional environmental sensors
UC502-868M has 1 SDI-12 interface compliant with standard V1.4function.
SDI-12 is widely used in meteorological, hydrological and agricultural sensors, so the controller can serve as a communication node for advanced environmental installations.
The interface also supports transparent transmission.
3,3 V outputs and programmable 5/9/12 V outputs
UC502 can supply power to connected sensors, so in many installations a separate power supply for the measuring device is not required.
Available are 2 outputs 3,3 V and 2 × switchable 5 V / 9 V / 12 V outputsfunction.
The 3,3 V output can operate continuously, while for 5/9/12 V the advance power-on time before data reading can be set within the range 0–10 minutesfunction.
Long-range transmission in the EU868 band
Variant 868M is intended, among others, for European installations operating in the frequency plan EU868. It also supports IN865 and RU864.
For the 868 MHz band, the maximum transmitter power is 16 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches −137 dBm at 300 bpsfunction.
UC502 operates as a LoRaWAN® OTAA/ABP Class A, reducing power consumption and matching the characteristics of autonomous measurement points.
Integrated LoRaWAN® antenna without SMA connector
Standard variant UC502-868M uses an internal antennafunction.
The antenna is inside the enclosure, so the device requires no additional antenna cable or external antenna installation.
For locations with difficult radio conditions, Milesight offers a separate variant UC502-868M EA equipped with an SMA 50 Ω connector for an external antenna.
3 replaceable 9000 mAh batteries or 5–24 V DC power supply
Primary power for UC502 is provided by 3 replaceable ER26500 Li-SOCl₂ batteries with a capacity of 9000 mAh eachfunction.
The controller can also be powered with external voltage 5–24 V DC via the M12 connector.
This allows the device to be used both as a completely autonomous telemetry point and in an installation with access to a local DC power source.
Threshold Alarm and Change Alarm
Function Threshold Alarm enables an event to be reported when a configured limit value is exceeded.
Change Alarm enables a specified change in value relative to the previous measurement to be reported.
These mechanisms enable faster response to abnormalities without requiring a very short fixed transmission interval.
Local Storage and Measurement Retransmission
The LoRaWAN® UC502 version can locally store up to 600 historical recordsfunction.
Data Retrievability allows stored measurements to be read later, while Data Retransmission enables data to be resent after LoRaWAN® connectivity is restored.
The mechanism reduces the risk of gaps in measurement history during temporary gateway unavailability or deteriorated radio conditions.
NFC, USB Type-C and remote downlink
UC502 can be configured using the mobile app Milesight ToolBox via NFCfunction.
Inside the device there is also a USB Type-C port intended for configuration and the service console, and a Power/Reset button.
Downlink support additionally allows selected device settings to be changed remotely over the LoRaWAN® network.
IP68 and operating temperature from −30 to +70°C
UC502 is designed for long-term operation in demanding field conditions.
The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68. The manufacturer defines the test conditions as device immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 daysfunction.
The operating temperature range is from −30 to +70°C, and permissible relative humidity from 0 to 95% non-condensing.
Compact controller for wall or pole installation
The UC502 enclosure dimensions are 116 × 116 × 45,5 mm, excluding protruding connectors.
The device can be installed on a wall or pole, allowing it to be positioned directly near connected sensors.
