Milesight UC501-N03GL — solar NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1 controller with multiple industrial interfaces
Milesight UC501-N03GL is an industrial IoT controller designed to collect data from wired sensors, meters, transducers and serial devices and transmit it directly via the LTE Cat M1 or NB-IoT cellular network.
The controller combines 2 GPIO ports, 2 analogue inputs, switchable RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU and SDI-12 V1.4. The integrated solar panel, rechargeable batteries and 5–24 V DC power option enable autonomous telemetry points to be built without a local LoRaWAN® gateway.
Designation N03GL identifies the global NB-IoT / Cat M module. The device uses an internal cellular antenna and Nano SIM, and communication with the higher-level system can use TCP, UDP, MQTT or AWS.
Standalone integration point without an additional gateway
NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1
Direct communication with the operator network allows data to be transmitted without installing a local LoRaWAN® gateway.
Multiple interfaces
GPIO, 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, RS232/RS485, Modbus RTU and SDI-12 support many types of field devices.
Solar + batteries
The built-in 6 V / 1,7 W panel and two rechargeable 2550 mAh batteries enable autonomous controller operation.
Remote telemetry for sensors and industrial devices
Global N03GL module with LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT Cat NB2
Variant N03GL is the global cellular-module version for the UC50x Series.
The controller supports technologies LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT Cat NB2, allowing it to use existing cellular operator infrastructure.
UC501-N03GL has an internal antenna and a Nano SIM 4FF, 1,8 Vfunction.
Wide frequency range for global deployments
TCP, UDP, MQTT and AWS
UC501-N03GL can transmit data directly from the cellular network to the higher-level system.
Supported application modes include TCP, UDP, MQTT and AWS, enabling the device to be integrated with various IoT platforms and custom servers.
No LoRaWAN® gateway is required, simplifying the architecture of individual and highly distributed measurement points.
2 programmable DI, DO or Pulse Counter channels
UC501-N03GL has 2 GPIO ports, which can be switched by software between Digital Input, Digital Output and Pulse Counter functions.
This enables contacts and alarm states to be monitored, meter pulses counted and basic control functions performed.
2 channels 4–20 mA or 0–10 V
The controller has 2 analogue inputs with 12-bit resolution.
Each channel can be configured by software for a 4–20 mA or 0–10 V, enabling direct connection of common industrial transmitters.
Support for Modbus RTU and transparent transmission
One serial interface can be switched by software between RS232 and RS485function.
Both variants support transparent transmission, while RS485 additionally supports Modbus RTUfunction.
This enables integration of meters, analysers, inverters, controllers, transducers and other industrial devices.
Integration of professional environmental sensors
UC501-N03GL has 1 SDI-12 interface compliant with standard V1.4function.
The interface is intended, among other things, for meteorological, hydrological and agricultural sensors using the SDI-12 standard.
Transparent transmission mode is also available.
3,3 V outputs and switchable 5/9/12 V outputs
UC501 can power connected measurement devices without requiring a separate energy source for each sensor.
Available are 2 outputs 3,3 V and 2 switchable 5 V / 9 V / 12 V outputsfunction.
The 3,3 V outputs can operate continuously, while for 5/9/12 V the power-on time before reading can be defined within the range 0–10 minutesfunction.
Up to 12 data packets in one report
The NB-IoT / Cat M version supports the Cumulative Reportingfunction.
The controller can accumulate up to 12 data packets in one report, reducing the number of transmissions made by the cellular modem.
The function can reduce power consumption and the number of transmissions in applications where each individual measurement does not need to be sent immediately.
Local storage of up to 10 000 records
The cellular UC501 version can locally store up to 10 000 historical data recordsfunction.
Data Retrievability allows stored information to be read later, while Data Retransmission allows missing data to be resent after the connection is restored.
The mechanism is particularly important at remote measurement points where cellular coverage may periodically deteriorate.
Response to threshold exceedance or value change
Threshold Alarm enables a report to be generated when the configured threshold is exceeded.
Function Change Alarm can respond to a defined change in value relative to the previous measurement.
This allows important information to be transmitted faster without shortening the standard reporting interval.
Built-in 6 V / 1,7 W panel
UC501 has integrated photovoltaic panel rated at 6 V / 1,7 Wfunction.
The panel charges the internal batteries during operation, enabling long-term use of the device in locations without a permanent power connection.
The manufacturer also provides the option of using an optional CS0X solar panel in installations requiring separate photovoltaic module placement.
2 × 2550 mAh and 5–24 V DC
Energy is stored in 2 rechargeable ICR18650 batteries with a capacity of 2550 mAh eachfunction.
Alternatively, UC501 can be powered with external voltage 5–24 V DC via the M12 connector.
The combination of solar panel, batteries and DC input allows the power method to be adapted to the conditions of the specific installation.
NFC and Remote Downlink
UC501-N03GL can be activated and configured using NFC and the Milesight ToolBox appfunction.
The device also supports remote setting changes via downlink communication.
Inside the enclosure there is a port USB Type-C intended for the service console, Power/Reset button and Reboot/Reset LED.
IP68 and operation from −20 to +60°C
UC501-N03GL is designed for installation in demanding field conditions.
The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP68, with the manufacturer defining the test conditions as device immersion at a depth of 1 m for 7 daysfunction.
The operating temperature range is from −20 to +60°C, and permissible relative humidity from 0 to 95% non-condensing.
Compact enclosure for wall or pole mounting
UC501 dimensions are 116 × 116 × 45,5 mm, excluding protruding connectors.
The manufacturer provides for device mounting on a wall or pole, allowing the controller to be placed directly near the connected sensors.
