Milesight SG50-L08GL-868M 45W — solar LoRaWAN® gateway with 4G communication
Milesight SG50-L08GL-868M, PN: 45W is an outdoor, 8-channel LoRaWAN® gateway designed to create IoT infrastructure in locations without easy access to permanent power and a wired Internet connection.
The device combines LoRaWAN® 868 MHz, modem 4G LTE Cat.1 / GSM L08GL, an internal 25 Ah battery and solar power. The PN: 45W configuration uses the monocrystalline SP1545 15 V / 45 W, providing more available solar power than the standard 30 W panel.
With IP67 protection, an operating temperature range from −30 to +70°C and wall or pole mounting capability, the SG50 can operate in distributed field installations, agriculture, water management, environmental monitoring and other systems requiring autonomous LoRaWAN® infrastructure.
Autonomous LoRaWAN® infrastructure powered by solar energy
45 W solar panel
The PN: 45W configuration uses an SP1545 panel with 15 V operating voltage and 45 W maximum power.
25 Ah battery
The built-in battery keeps the gateway operating at night and during periods of insufficient sunlight.
LoRaWAN® + 4G
The gateway receives data from LoRaWAN® devices and sends it to the higher-level system over the LTE Cat.1 cellular network.
LoRaWAN® in locations without wired infrastructure
Monocrystalline SP1545 15 V / 45 W solar panel
The standard SG50 configuration can use a 30 W solar panel, while the manufacturer also provides an option to increase power to 45 Wfunction.
Variant PN: 45W uses the panel Milesight SP1545 made using monocrystalline technology.
The panel has an operating voltage of 15 V and maximum power of 45 W. Solar energy powers the gateway and simultaneously enables charging of its internal battery.
8 channels and support for approximately 2000 devices
SG50 uses 8-channel LoRaWAN® concentrator operating in half-duplex modefunction.
In packet forwarder mode, the gateway can support approximately 2000 Class A/B/C devices, although the actual number depends, among other factors, on the number of uplink and downlink transmissions.
Receiver sensitivity reaches −140 dBm at 292 bps, while the maximum transmit power is 27 dBm.
LoRaWAN® variant intended for operation in EU868
Variant SG50-L08GL-868M is intended, among other applications, for operation under the European EU868function.
frequency plan. The SG50 platform also supports other regional LoRaWAN® plans, including IN865, RU864, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923.
In Poland, the device should be configured according to the EU868 frequency plan.
Integration with popular LoRaWAN® network servers
The SG50 can operate as a packet forwarder and forward received LoRaWAN® packets to an external Network Server.
Supported solutions include, among others, Semtech UDP Forwarder, Basic Station TCP Forwarder, ChirpStack v3/v4, Milesight DeviceHub LNS and Milesight Development Platform LNSfunction.
Available functions also include Packet Filter, Listen Before Talk and data retransmission.
Local support for up to 100 LoRaWAN® devices
The SG50 also has a built-in LoRaWAN® Network Server, so an external LNS is not required in some installations.
The built-in server supports a maximum of 100 devices and LoRaWAN® V1.0.3 Class A/Class C.
The MQTTfunction.
Global LTE Cat.1 modem with GSM fallback
Designation L08GL designates a modem variant intended for global applications excluding North America.
The modem supports 4G LTE Cat.1 and GSMprotocol is available for integration with the higher-level system, allowing the gateway to transmit data without wired Internet access.
The device has one Nano SIM 4FF socket and an external cellular antenna shared with the GPS receiver.
Built-in GPS receiver
The SG50 has GPS receiver, which can provide location information and support functions requiring time synchronisation.
The GPS antenna is external and shared with the cellular communication interface.
Wireless configuration in the 2,4 GHz band
The SG50 has an interface Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b/g/n 2,4 GHz operating in Access Point mode.
Wi-Fi is intended for device configuration only and does not serve as a standard backhaul interface.
The manufacturer specifies an approximate Wi-Fi configuration range of approximately 10–15 m.
Web, MQTT API and remote Milesight platforms
The SG50 can be configured and managed via Web interface, MQTT API, Milesight Development Platform and DeviceHubfunction.
Software updates can be performed locally via Web or remotely through Milesight platforms.
The gateway also has the Ping diagnostic tool and built-in Watchdog and Timer mechanisms.
Built-in OpenVPN Client
The SG50 supports OpenVPN Client, enabling a secure connection to appropriately configured VPN infrastructure.
The function can be used for more secure transport of traffic between the remotely installed gateway and the organisation's network or server.
Internal 25 000 mAh backup power
The SG50 has a built-in battery system with a voltage of 3,6 V and a capacity of 25 000 mAhfunction.
According to the manufacturer, the battery can provide up to 4 days of typical operation without sunlight with 100 devices reporting every 10 minutes.
The value was determined under laboratory conditions and is indicative. Actual operating time depends, among other factors, on LoRaWAN® traffic, cellular communication, radio conditions and temperature.
Solar panel, 12–24 V DC or USB-C
The primary power method for the PN: 45W configuration is the SP1545 solar panel connected to the gateway power interface.
The SG50 can also be powered by 12–24 V DC through an M12 A-Coded connectorfunction.
The USB Type-C port can provide 5 V / 2 A power and also serves as a console port. The internal battery is charged through the M12 connector.
