Edge Box HMI STM6 with Pro-face Connect

The STM6000 Edge Box HMI concept was developed to add data collection and sharing functions to existing installations.

The device can be connected to controllers and other automation components and then collect process information used for machine monitoring, reporting, or further analysis.

This extends the functionality of an existing system without replacing the local operator panel.

PFXSTM6B00DIOT is an STM6000 variant designed for BLUE Open Studio 2020 SP2 or later.

The device is supplied with an activated BLUE Open Studio Runtime for 500 tags, making the runtime platform available without the need to purchase a separate basic runtime licence for this variant.

The manufacturer specifies support for STM6000 Edge Box HMI 11 communication drivers available for this configuration.

In the PFXSTM6B00DIOT configuration, the manufacturer activates one BLUE Open Studio Mobile Access connection.

The solution allows an appropriately prepared visualisation to be made available to a remote device without installing a physical screen at the Edge Box itself.

The device also comes factory-installed with Pro-face Connect, intended to provide remote-access functions according to the system configuration.

PFXSTM6B00DIOT runs Linux operating system.

The unit uses a processor ARM Cortex-A8 and is designed as a fanless industrial module cooled by natural convection.

Edge Box features two Ethernet TCP/IP interfaces terminated with RJ45 connectors.

Each port supports 10/100BASE-T, allowing the device to operate between the OT automation layer and systems responsible for further data processing.

PFXSTM6B00DIOT features one COM1 serial communication port.

The interface uses an RJ45 connector and supports RS-232C and RS-485.

The supported transmission speed range is 2400 to 115200 bit/s.

The Edge Box is equipped with USB 2.0 Type-A and USB 2.0 micro-B.

The interfaces support compatible USB devices as well as transfer and service functions in accordance with the software documentation.

This is an important difference compared with standard STM6000 Rear Modules.

Pro-face documentation clearly states that PFXSTM6B00DIOT cannot be connected directly to an STM6000 Display Module.

The Edge Box must be used with the dedicated Rear Module mounting adapter and is designed to operate as a standalone unit without a local screen.

PFXSTM6B00DIOT is supplied in an Edge Box configuration intended for mounting on a standard DIN rail.

This allows the unit to be installed inside an automation cabinet next to PLCs, network devices, and other infrastructure components.

The rated supply voltage of the device is 24 V DC.

The permissible input voltage range is 19,2–28,8 V DC.

The maximum power consumption is 6,8 W, while without powering external devices the manufacturer specifies approximately 3,5 W.

The current product data sheet lists certifications including CE, UKCA, cULus, RCM, KC, EAC, cULus Class I Division 2, ABS, RINA and DNV.

The design has been verified, among other things, for resistance to vibration and shock in accordance with industrial automation equipment requirements.

The current Pro-face product list marks PFXSTM6B00DIOT as End of Sales: June 30th, 2026.

The product may still be available through distribution and inventory, but the end of regular manufacturer sales should be taken into account when designing new installations.
