Milesight FT101-868M — field tester for LoRaWAN® EU868 network coverage and quality
Milesight FT101-868M is a portable tool designed for measuring, analysing and optimising LoRaWAN® network parameters during the design, commissioning and servicing of IoT installations operating in the 868 MHz band.
The tester allows parameters such as RSSI, SNR, packet loss, Spreading Factor and transmit powerto be checked directly at the planned installation location. This makes it possible to assess the actual gateway range, find the optimal end-device installation location and identify areas where the building structure or other obstacles degrade radio communication.
FT101 uses a 5,72" touchscreen, Android 12, a built-in GNSS module and advanced test functions such as noise scanning and Ping-Pong mode. It is therefore a complete field tool for installers, integrators and designers of professional LoRaWAN® networks.
Coverage measurement before device installation
Real-time analysis
FT101 instantly displays RSSI, SNR, packet statistics and other parameters for assessing LoRaWAN® connection quality.
5,72" HD
The large touchscreen with a resolution of 1440 × 720 px enables convenient analysis of results directly during field measurements.
GNSS and reports
Results can be saved together with the coordinates of the measurement point and then exported for further analysis.
Tool for LoRaWAN® network design and diagnostics
RSSI, SNR and packet loss available directly in the field
FT101 enables ongoing assessment of communication quality between the end device and the LoRaWAN® gateway.
During the test, it is possible to analyse, among other things, RSSI, SNR, number of uplink packets, confirmed packets and percentage of lost packetsfunction.
This makes it possible not only to determine whether a connection exists, but also to assess its quality and the remaining radio margin before the actual installation is carried out.
FT101-868M variant for installations operating in the 868 MHz band
Version FT101-868M is intended primarily for measurements of networks operating under the European frequency plan EU868function.
For the 868 MHz band, the maximum tester transmit power is 16 dBm, while receiver sensitivity reaches −137 dBm at 125 kHz bandwidth and SF12function.
The antenna is connected via a standard SMA connector. The FT101 design allows the antenna to be replaced and tests to be performed for other supported frequency ranges when a suitable antenna is used.
LoRaWAN® 1.0.3 with OTAA Class A support
The tester operates according to the protocol LoRaWAN® V1.0.3 and can join the network using the mechanism OTAAfunction.
The operating mode corresponds to class Class A, allowing FT101 to behave during tests similarly to a typical battery-powered LoRaWAN® end device.
Selecting the appropriate SF before device deployment
FT101 can transmit packets using different values of Spreading Factor, enabling comparison of connection quality for individual LoRaWAN® settings.
This makes it possible to determine whether the device can operate stably with a lower SF providing shorter transmission time, or whether the specific location requires a more robust radio setting.
Scanning interference levels on radio channels
Function Noise Scan analyses the noise level present on individual radio channels.
FT101 generates a report that helps identify channels with elevated interference levels and better select network parameters before the actual installation is commissioned.
Location test before commissioning the actual gateway
Mode Ping-Pong enables two FT101 testers to be used to simulate communication between a gateway and an end device.
The solution makes it possible to test uplink and downlink transmission before installing the target infrastructure and compare potential gateway or sensor locations.
GNSS records the coordinates of each test point
The integrated positioning module supports the systems GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileofunction.
During outdoor measurements, the tester can save latitude and longitude together with signal-quality results.
This makes it possible to create documentation from multiple measurement points and compare coverage in different parts of a facility or area.
Exporting results for further analysis
The results of completed tests can be saved on the device and then transferred to a computer using the port USB Type-Cfunction.
The report can include, among other things, signal strength, RSSI, SNR, number of packets, percentage of lost packets, location, Spreading Factor and transmit power.
5,72-inch 1440 × 720 px touchscreen
The large LCD touchscreen enables measurements and parameter analysis without the need for an additional computer.
Android 12, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage
FT101 uses an octa-core processor MediaTek MTK6762 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.
Operating system Android 12 also enables installation of the Milesight ToolBox app, allowing the device to be used to configure compatible Milesight sensors via NFC.
The additional microSD slot supports memory cards with capacities up to 256 GBfunction.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GNSS and USB Type-C
Up to approximately 8 hours of active measurements
FT101 has a built-in rechargeable battery 4,3 V / 4300 mAhfunction.
The manufacturer declares approximately 8 hours of operation during active testing and over 300 hours in standby mode. Actual operating time depends on usage conditions.
Charging can be performed via the USB Type-C port at a voltage of 5 V DC / 2 Afunction.
IP65 enclosure for field measurements
FT101 was designed as a portable field device. The enclosure has a protection rating of IP65function.
The operating temperature range is from −10 to +50°C, and the permissible relative humidity is up to 95% non-condensing.
Compact device for mobile operation
The FT101 enclosure dimensions are 178 × 83 × 17 mm, allowing the tester to be conveniently carried between successive measurement points.
The device weighs approximately 242 g without antenna. The 868 MHz version uses an external antenna adapted to the selected frequency band.
