Milesight EM400-MUD-N03GL, PN: B045-2 is a multifunctional ultrasonic distance and fill-level sensor with NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1 and GNSS positioning. It enables non-contact measurement across a wide range of 3–450 cm, with 1 mm resolution and a small blind zone. It was designed especially for monitoring medium and large waste containers, but can also be used for general distance and level measurements.
The EM400-MUD features 3-axis accelerometer for tilt detection and an NTC sensor enabling, among other things, detection of elevated temperature inside the container. The IP67 enclosure, two replaceable 9000 mAh ER26500 batteries, NFC configuration, GNSS, and direct cellular communication enable autonomous monitoring systems without a LoRaWAN gateway.

EM400-MUD B045-2 — Measurement from 3 cm to 4,5 m with a Small Blind Zone
Milesight EM400-MUD-N03GL B045-2 is a multifunctional ultrasonic distance and fill-level sensor using NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1 communication and GNSS positioning.
A measurement range from just 3 cm to 450 cm enables operation in applications where a small blind zone is critical. The manufacturer designed the EM400-MUD primarily for medium and large waste containers and other applications requiring fill-level monitoring.
The N03GL version communicates directly through the operator network, so the installation does not require a local LoRaWAN gateway.
Small Blind Zone, Cellular Connectivity and Device Status Monitoring
3–450 cm
A range starting at just 3 cm enables measurements very close to the sensor as well.
NB-IoT / LTE-M
Direct communication with the operator network eliminates the need to install a LoRaWAN gateway.
3 in 1
Distance measurement, NTC temperature, and a 3-axis accelerometer provide additional data about the status of the monitored object.
Smart Waste and Non-Contact Distance Measurement
Non-Contact Measurement with a Small Blind Zone
The EM400-MUD emits an ultrasonic wave towards the measured object and then measures the return time of the reflected signal.
A range starting at 3 cm makes it possible to measure a surface located much closer to the device than with many conventional level sensors with a larger blind zone.
0,03–4,5 m Range and 1 mm Resolution
Dedicated Container Monitoring Mode
The NB-IoT / Cat M version offers two factory-prepared operating modes: Standard Mode and Bin Mode.
Bin Mode has been optimised for monitoring the fill level of medium and large waste containers.
Parking Lot Mode is available in the LoRaWAN EM400-MUD version and is not available in the NB-IoT / Cat M N03GL variant.
Internal NTC Supporting Fire Hazard Detection
The EM400-MUD features a built-in NTC temperature sensor.
In waste management applications, it can be used to detect an unusual temperature increase and provide an alarm about potential ignition of the container contents.
3-Axis Accelerometer and Normal / Tilt Status
The built-in 3-axis accelerometer enables monitoring of device orientation.
When installed in a container, tilt information can help detect a change in the position of the sensor or monitored object.
Location of Distributed Containers and Devices
The NB-IoT / Cat M version is equipped with a GNSS module that enables device location reporting.
The function is particularly useful in distributed installations, enabling the sensor to be assigned to a specific container or outdoor point.
NB-IoT / LTE Cat M1 with Micro SIM Card
The EM400-MUD-N03GL uses cellular operator infrastructure instead of a local LoRaWAN network.
This allows the device to operate in distributed locations where NB-IoT or LTE-M coverage is available.
TCP, UDP, MQTT and AWS
Cumulative Report Reducing the Number of Transmissions
The NB-IoT / Cat M version supports the Cumulative Report function.
It enables multiple measurements to be collected and sent together in a single report, reducing the frequency of cellular transmission sessions.
Alarms, Calibration and Measurement Control
Threshold Alarm
An alarm can be generated when the configured measurement threshold is exceeded.
Calibration
The calibration function allows device readings to be adapted to a specific installation.
Tilt & Distance Switch
The function can use device position information together with distance measurement.
Two Replaceable 9000 mAh Batteries
The EM400-MUD is powered by two ER26500 Li-SOCl₂ batteries with a capacity of 9000 mAh each.
For the NB-IoT / Cat M version, Milesight specifies approximately 10 years of operation with TCP/UDP and approximately 5 years with MQTT/AWS under specified laboratory conditions.
* Manufacturer test conditions: 4 reports per day, each report contains 12 packets with a 30-minute collection interval, temperature 25°C. The SIM card must support PSM. Actual battery life also depends on cellular network signal quality.
NFC and Remote Configuration
Device parameters can be configured using an NFC-enabled smartphone and the Milesight ToolBox app.
The EM400-MUD also supports configuration via downlink. Inside the enclosure there is a Power / Reset button and an LED indicator.
IP67 and Additional Electronics Protection
IP67
The enclosure protects the device against dust and water.
Conformal Coating
The electronic board has an additional coating that protects against moisture and contaminants.
−30…+70°C
The wide temperature range allows the device to be used in outdoor installations.
Installation on a Flat Surface
The EM400-MUD is designed for mounting on a flat surface using screws.
For correct measurement, the sensor should be pointed perpendicular to the monitored surface and have clear space for the ultrasonic beam.
Key Parameters of the EM400-MUD-N03GL B045-2
* Declared battery life values are results of the manufacturer's laboratory tests. For the cellular version, PSM support is required on the SIM card side, and actual battery life also depends on operator network signal quality.
EM400-MUD in a Remote Monitoring System
Fill level, temperature, position status, and location data can be transmitted directly via the cellular network.
