EEM-XM357 — three-phase 100 A energy meter with Modbus RTU
Phoenix Contact EEM-XM357 1674511 is an EMpro family energy meter designed for direct current measurement up to 100 A AC and revenue-grade energy monitoring in single- and three-phase installations.
The device is a bidirectional, meter that records both imported and exported energy. Measurement covers all four quadrants, allowing the direction of active and reactive energy flow to be distinguished.
The EEM-XM357 has RS-485 with Modbus RTU protocol, two pulse outputs and four tariffs controlled via Modbus. Local parameter reading is provided by a backlit LCD display.
Direct 100 A measurement, class C and four tariffs
100 A
The direct current path makes it possible to measure current without external transformers.
Class C / 0.5
High active-energy measurement accuracy according to EN 50470-3 and IEC 62053-21.
4 tariffs
The four tariff registers can be switched and used via Modbus communication.
Energy measurement and billing
Current up to 100 A AC without transformers
The EEM-XM357 performs direct current measurement up to 100 A AC.
The reference current is 10 A, the minimum current is 0.3 A, and the starting current is 0,04 A.
The maximum current of the measurement path is 100 A, and the manufacturer specifies short-term overload capability at 30 × Imax for 0.01 s.
Single- and three-phase networks up to 480 V AC
The nominal measurement voltage is 3 × 230 V AC / 400 V AC.
The voltage range between phase and neutral is 100–277 V AC.
For phase-to-phase measurement, the input range is 173–480 V AC. The meter can operate in single-phase 2-wire and three-phase 3- and 4-wire systems.
Energy import and export in four quadrants
The EEM-XM357 is bidirectional meter, so it can record both energy imported and energy exported to the grid.
The manufacturer defines the device as a meter performing four-quadrant measurement.
This makes it possible to record active and reactive energy values while taking the direction of energy flow into account.
Class C according to EN 50470-3
The EEM-XM357 complies with MID directive for measuring instruments.
For active energy, the manufacturer specifies class C according to EN 50470-3 and class 0.5 according to IEC 62053-21.
Reactive energy is measured in class 2 according to IEC 62053-23.
Multi-tariff energy recording via Modbus
The meter has 4 independent energy tariffs.
Tariff handling is performed via Modbus, so the supervisory system can use different energy registers depending on the adopted billing method or operating period.
The function makes it possible to use one meter in more advanced energy monitoring and billing systems.
RS-485 for supervisory systems
EEM-XM357 has an RS-485 interface with Modbus RTU protocol.
Available transmission speeds are 2400, 4800, 9600, 19 200 and 38 400 bit/s. The factory setting is 9600 bit/s.
The device address can be set from 1 to 247. Odd, even or none parity and one or two stop bits can also be configured.
Fast parameter reading via Modbus
The manufacturer specifies the data update time for active power as 100 ms.
Energy values are updated every 1 second.
This facilitates ongoing use of measurement data in automation and energy monitoring systems.
Two passive, optically isolated outputs
EEM-XM357 has 2 passive, optically isolated pulse outputs.
The maximum switching voltage is 27 V DC, and the maximum current is 27 mA.
For the first output, pulse width and meter constant are configurable. The second output has a pulse width of 100 ms and a constant of 400 imp/kWh.
Backlit LCD for local reading
The meter is equipped with a LCD display with white backlight.
The maximum displayed energy value is 999999,99 kWh or kVArh.
The display enables local parameter checking without the need to use Modbus communication.
Powered directly from the measurement circuit
The EEM-XM357 does not require a separate auxiliary power supply.
The device is powered directly from the monitored measurement circuit.
Consumption is a maximum of 10 VA / 2 W.
Protection class II and CAT III
EEM-XM357 has protection class II, overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2.
The measurement category is CAT III 300 V.
The rated impulse voltage is 6 kV, while in the EMC data the manufacturer specifies immunity to an impulse voltage of 4 kV.
Screw terminals for conductors up to 25 mm²
The main measurement circuit uses screw terminals intended for rigid and flexible conductors with cross-sections from 1,5 to 25 mm².
The stripping length is 12–13 mm, and the required tightening torque is 3,5 Nm.
The remaining connections use terminals for rigid conductors 0,14–2,5 mm² and flexible conductors 0,14–1,5 mm².
MID measurement at temperatures from −40 to +70°C
The operating temperature range specified for MID use is −40…+70°C.
For UL approval, the manufacturer specifies a range of −40…+65°C, while for the LCD display itself it is 0…+55°C.
Permissible operating humidity is 0 to 90% non-condensing, and the maximum operating altitude is 2000 m.
Compact 4 HP DIN-rail housing
The EEM-XM357 is intended for horizontal DIN-rail mounting.
Device dimensions are 72 × 100 × 71 mm, and the width corresponds to four modular units.
After mounting on an NS 35/7.5 rail, the depth is 65 mm. The device weight without packaging is 335 g.
4 TE
A width of 72 mm enables compact installation in a standard distribution board.
DIN
Mounting on a standard NS 35/7,5 rail facilitates installation with other equipment.
335 g
The compact design combines a direct 100 A path with communication and billing functions.
